On the morning of January 18, 2018, Nintendo, a veteran Japanese gaming company, released a new add-on of the Switch game consoles, which caused some "sensation" in the game field.
Nintendo Labo, a gaming peripheral released by Nintendo, will allow players to plug their Switch devices into a single corrugated box with a variety of shapes and ease of assembly. Switch "transforms" into pianos, fishing rods, racing cars, robots and more. This gives a device flexibility to offer the player different experiences.
Nintendo officially announced the launch of two gaming peripherals, will be on sale on April 20 this year. One is the Variety Kit, which contains five games like fishing and playing the piano, for $69.99; the other is a Robot Kit that mimics a robot for $79.99, both of which require corresponding games to use.
Corrugated box peripheral’s great function thanks to the IR camera on the Switch handle. This infrared camera on the Handheld Game Players can test the depth of field and the surrounding object's distance. Peripherals added a mirror reflective cardboard, so Switch can sense the movement of the parts on the paper mold through the reflective, and thus respond to the game software. Taking piano peripherals as an example, the infrared camera on the controller can see the reflective strip on the back of the piano button. When a piano button is pressed, the reflection strip enters the field of view and informs the game software to play the correct note. Will this mean that, in the future, we can design or DIY our own game peripherals by some simple materials?
The game industry has considered Nintendo a great success this time, the public and the social media all highly praised this corrugated box peripheral as completely innovative and creative, which contains great potential for the future development of PC Video Game Accessories. As of press time, US stock Nintendo rose 3%.
